'This Moment in America' panel discussion
The past year has seen an unprecedented level of tumult and turbulence for marginalized groups, who are experiencing heightened levels of oppression, racism, stigma and marginalization in 2021. This panel discussion will address “This Moment in America,” including police violence, COVID’s impact on the state of the world, recent changes to the Supreme Court and presidency, immigration, and the like.

The session will be moderated by Vice Chancellor André L. Churchwell with an introduction from Chancellor Daniel Diermeier.

Panelists will include:
- Bitania Endalkachew – senior in Arts and Science majoring in political science and women’s and gender studies; external relations liaison, FirstVU
- Claire Barnett – communications coordinator, Frist Center for Autism and Innovation
- Franklin Ellis – director, Provost’s Office for Inclusive Excellence
- Katie Crawford – Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Gender and Sexuality Studies and History.
- Rob Nelson – interim director, Office of LGBTQI Life
- Terry Maroney – professor of law
- Veer Shah – senior at Peabody majoring in HOD and economics; president, Vanderbilt Student Government
- Xiu Cravens - associate dean for international students and affairs, Peabody College
